Hope in Haringey celebrates a year of school engagement by opening the Christmas period with a Community Carol Concert – hosting more than 300 people at educational partner London Academy of Excellence, Tottenham.

By Omar Alleyne-Lawler, Communications and Police Engagement Manager.

Hope in Haringey’s annual Community Carol Concert at LAET opened the Christmas season for the charity, signing off a packed year of community-led events in 2023.

The carol concert, which has taken place at the school since 2019 saw the Tottenham-based charity re-opening its doors to community and educational partners. This year, its attendance would match record levels, taking the venue to capacity whilst welcoming more than 300 local people in an after-school event of connection, singing and festive spirit.

Celebrating the talent of Haringey’s young people, the concert centred around their performances across the arts including St Francis de Sales Primary School Student Choir, readings from LAET Students, singing from Haringey Vox, African and Chinese Dancing from The Willow Primary School, Lancasterian’s Samba Drummers, Haringey Music Service Youth Orchestra and HiH’s multi-school collaboration in the TRADE Photographic Exhibition.

Connecting Hope in Haringey’s youth outreach with its police engagement programme, the Community Carol Concert also saw Safer Schools Officers in attendance. By attending, Hope in Haringey is appreciative of officers who are making a conscious effort to participate in community events like these.

Involvement from the entire Haringey community was in fine voice too, singing carols such as The King from Bethlehem, O little town of Bethlehem, Silent night and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, much to the delight of the children in attendance.

The concert would close on a message about the importance of Christmas, led by Pastor Nims Obunge. As the Deputy-Lieutenant to His Majesty King Charles III, Hope in Haringey would like to thank the pastor for his time and poignant message on community and finding support in one another at this time.

We would like to thank everyone for attending, celebrating and partaking in the festivities with us. We wish you a joyous season ahead!
