Hope in Haringey’s Police Engagement programme has been delivering a student-led police engagement programme in Park View, Mulberry Academy Woodside and Gladesmore, connecting relevant police officers to the young person’s interest.

Hope in Haringey has been working closely with Youth Echo to create and deliver a bespoke police engagement programme for Haringey’s young people.

TSG Officers visit at the request of Park View to talk with Year 9 students about their specialist policing role and what they are doing to stop phone thieves, drug dealing and weapons offences.

The project is a collaboration between Year 9 students at four local secondary schools and Metropolitan Police officers. It has been designed so that young people make engagement requests to the police who then deliver engagement sessions directly related to the the topics of interest to the young people.

Specialist Officers working to tackle serious youth violence speak with Mulberry Academy students about what online activity the police are monitoring and how they can be safe from online grooming, gang violence and content detrimental to their mental health.

So far, students have learned about the TSG and heard about Online Safety from experts tackling Serious Youth violence and online grooming. In the new year, HiH hopes to connect senior leaders from the local Metropolitan Police structure with students at Dukes Aldridge Academy, Park View, Mulberry Academy Woodside and Gladesmore.

Once these sessions have been delivered, Hope in Haringey will collate these findings in the 2025 Haringey Youth Summit under the title theme “Are the police listening to Haringey’s young people?”

This partnership with Youth Echo is the newest police engagement offering by HiH and is an extension of its existing engagement projects targeted at Public Services students, community bridge building and mutual learning and understanding.
