Hope in Haringey have been selected by Response Team A as their local charity to support ahead of their attempt to take on the 3 Peaks Challenge attempt next month – a mental and physical challenge that will see the group of 10 local officers attempting to summit Snowdonia, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike in 24 hours.

A team of 10 Challengers and 4 supporting drivers will be working together to take on Snowdonia, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike next month as part of the 3 Peaks Challenge.

Dubbed ‘one of the UK’s most iconic endurance events’ the group will take on the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales – all within a 24 hour period with the challengers needing to overcome approximately 23 miles of walking, more than 10,000ft of vertical ascents and more than 460 miles of driving as they push their mind and body for a good cause.

The team attempting this grueling challenge will be made up of Haringey based police officers who have elected to do this in a private capacity. As people based in the local area, selecting Hope in Haringey highlights their commitment to Haringey and its young people outside of their day-to-day roles.

On choosing Hope in Haringey, Tom said; “We didn’t want to be cliche . We wanted to support young people as they are the future and we believe Hope in Haringey work really hard to support young people.”

In response, HiH’s Mentoring and Engagements Manager, Omar Alleyne-Lawler said “HiH are grateful to Tom and the team for choosing us, especially when Haringey is full of great organizations they might have chosen. As part of our commitment to the team taking on this challenge, we will commit the funds raised to the betterment of Haringey’s young people. Right now youth unemployment is at record levels and with more than one million young people out of work, we will support them via our employability Mentor Programme. Hope in Haringey are committed to supporting young people make the transition from education to employment and the funds form this challenge will be used to connect a young people with employability mentors, career-focused guest talks, getting them onto work experience programmes or even into courses and workshops that will build the skills needed for their careers.”

The team have pledged to raise £2,000 for the Tottenham-based charity, with £200 already raised within the first few days of the challenge being announced.

Using the platform ‘GoFundMe’, the Hope in Haringey have committed to having the fundraising process be open and transparent, with a fundraising link being made available where all donations are tracked.
