The Tottenham-based charity will be connecting young people and British Transport Police Officers in neutral spaces for mutual learning and understanding. This new partnership aims to give young people a better understanding of police activity at local transport hubs and how to stay safe on public transport.

In a collaborative effort made by HiH’s Mentoring and Police Engagement Programmes, the charity has successfully connected with community stakeholders in the British Transport Police.
This latest initiative seeks to develop the offerings of both programmes; with Mentoring hoping to connect interested mentees with active BTP officers and develop its career talk workshops. Meanwhile, the Police Engagement programme will work with officers to speak with local young people, educating them on police activity around the UK’s transport network – including Haringey’s transport hubs of Finsbury Park and Tottenham Hale.
Police Engagement Manager, Omar Alleyne-Lawler called the new partnership “the next step” in the police engagement programme that will see “young people get answers from the officers themselves about their role on our transport system”.
The first session of this new collaboration looks to take place at Mulberry Academy Woodside in March as part of the Youth Echo initiative. In this proposed session, Officers will speak about their Stop and Search procedure and activity at local stations as requested by Woodside’s year 9 cohort.
