Hope in Haringey’s recent connection with City St George’s University of London secured a highly anticipated guest lecture from US Political specialist, Professor Parmar.
Professor Parmar, who has been publishing on the topic since 1990, arrived at Harris following a connection made at HiH’s HASP Educational Symposium in September. With Harris eager to find educational development opportunities for its students, HiH facilitated the talk to enrich the life chances of HATO’s sixth formers, especially ones studying A-Level Politics and Economics.
Delivering his lecture on the same day as results for the 2024 US election were coming in, this event arrived at the perfect time to satiate a ferocious appetite for answers.
As prefaced by Head of Sixth Form, Ms Chaudoury, “our students have been watching the election closely, learning about the systems of governance in the country and analysing how presidential appointees influence the office […] so everyone is keen to hear from Professor Parmar”.
Professor Parmar delivered a concise hour-long session that outlined the role the US plays in our international political, military and economic system and how a second Presidential term for Donald Trump will impact the US internally. Overall, it was a session that successfully expanded the students’ knowledge of US politics and Harris is keen to have the Provessor visit again in future.
Hope in Haringey hopes to continue delivering transformational educational capital through the schools in the Haringey African Schools Partnership.
